Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of paper stock do you use?

That’s up to you! The paper stock suppliers we use have a vast array of paper types across gloss, silk, uncoated, tracing paper and even paper with plant seeds in it! It’s about working with you in consultation to agree the right paper stock to achieve the desired finish you want.

What does the pink line on my proof mean?

This line marks the ‘safe area’. We’ll make the final cut of the job 3mm outside of this at the blue cut line shown at the edge of the proof. All-important text and images should be inside the red line so they’re not at risk of being cut from the final print job.

What does perfect bound mean?

Perfect bound is the recommended way of finishing printed books with a large number of pages (typically over 60 dependent on paper stocks) to overcome bulking and closing issues. This gives a square back to the spine of the book. The cover is glued around the text pages which allows for the pages to lay flat and the book to close neatly.

If my proof doesn’t look right, what can I do?

If something isn’t right with your proof, please don’t approve, tick the Red Box’ on the proof form and get straight in touch with us. Let us know what you’re concerned about and we’ll see what we can do to put things right. We’re here to help!

How can I supply artwork?

PDF or Postscript files are the preferred option to deliver the best results.

Are there resolution guidelines for artwork?

For small format jobs such as flyers and business cards, we recommend you supply artwork with a minimum resolution of 300dpi. Large format jobs such as posters and roller banners should be a minimum of 150dpi and for PVC banners we’d advise 75 – 150 dpi.

What finishing options do you offer?

Talk to us and we can offer you a range of finishes that’ll help your job stand out. From different laminations or spot varnish to delicate foiling, embossing, debossing and die cutting we can deliver exactly the kind of finish you’re looking for.

What does saddle stitch mean?

Saddle stitch describes a way of finishing printed books. It usually means they have 2 stitches (staples) on the spine of the book. This is generally fine for books up to about 60 pages dependent on paper stocks. Anything over that can lead to issues with pages bulking and the book not closing correctly. For anything over 60 pages, the solution is Perfect Binding.

What colour option should my artwork be set up in?

Your artwork should be supplied as CMYK (Fogra 39). If it’s set up in a different format such as RGB, this will automatically convert at the proofing stage which can vary the colour of your artwork.

How much is delivery?

We’ll always discuss delivery requirements with you on every job and delivery to one address is always included in the price shown in our quote. Unless you want us to fulfil your order to personalised addresses, and we’ll provide a separate quote for that. So either way, there are no hidden extras.

Are your stocks FSC sourced?

All the paper we use comes from FSC certified suppliers. We have full clarity of our supply chain and we’re ISO Certified in Environmental Management Systems.
